Casita del Mesquite

Fans of modern design: Experience the dramatic architecture and clean lines of the stylish, contemporary Casita del Mesquite! This newly completed and fully furnished one-bedroom Mexican charmer is located in the northwest section of historic Centro, very close to the main Mercado, and a level walk of just 4.5 blocks from the Jardin, within easy "on foot" reach of restaurants, shops, organic vendors and artisan markets.

Designed by noted San Francisco architects Cathi and Steven House, Casita del Mesquite (along with its "sister" Casita del Maguey) is an integral part of CASA, the Center for Architecture, Sustainability + Art, a new learning and retreat center. Gallery and studio spaces at the front of the property give way to this beautiful pair of separate casitas, each with its own private entrance and self-contained amenities. The whole property is a wonderful mix of terraces, courtyards, fountains and gardens, which link gallery, studios and casitas.

 

Casita del Mesquite is nestled beneath a beautiful old mesquite tree from which it draws its name. 

Windows, skylights, stone walls, steps and plantings -- all are carefully choreographed to create spaces that move in constrantly changing vistas and flow with natural light. The casitas invite pause and induce wonder with their simple palette of white lime-washed walls, floors of creamy travertine marble and a red accent wall. Tying the spaces together is a grape-colored "recinto" stone wall along the south side of the property. The architects gave careful consideration to the movement of the sun throughout the seasons in the creative use of windows and skylights that send dancing patterns of light and shadow into every corner.

The powder room is wrapped in frosted glass.

Kitchen: Major and small appliances including all the cookware you need - microwave, toaster, blender, coffeemaker, plus ironing board and iron.

        16% VAT (tax on services/accommodations)

          4% lodging tax (State of GTO).
